The Inspiration...

I have always been fascinated by relationships. Relationships between people, cultures, spiritual elements, emotions and the results they create have always intrigued me. But I am most moved by the relationships between colors. As a child growing up in a family of artists, my earliest memories include the thrill of creating something singular and unique. Early on it became clear that the watercolor medium had a particular appeal to me as a creative outlet.

It wasn’t until I was a student at the University of California at Santa Barbara earning a Religious Studies/Psychology degree that I began to explore the parallels between the color spectrum and the human spectrum. As I began my journey both as an adult and an artist, I sensed my two identities heading in opposite directions. My personal life became more and more structured and defined with the addition of a husband, children and the associated responsibilities. As an artist, I began to crave the abstract, less structure, more freedom. These cravings led me to the process I use today.

My approach provides an element of chance that has given me a tremendous amount of satisfaction as I have developed as an artist. Each piece is essentially a collaboration between myself and fate. The result is defined depending on my thoughts and emotions at that moment.

I am at a point in my life where I would like to share what I have learned. There is as much beauty in conflict as there is in resolution. Both should be embraced. I hope the results of my ongoing journey are able to transport each individual to his or her own place of peace and inspiration.
